Varied and educational

Three styles. Many skills.

The junior training sessions alternate between Kali, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and kickboxing. The children are introduced to a variety of movements and exercises, whilst structure, a sense of security and good training habits are maintained throughout the programme.

We learn to make mistakes. The children are given the chance to try, make adjustments and try again. In this way, they discover that effort and practice lead to progress.

All-round training

A mix of standing exercises, group work and maths work.

We learn to fail

It’s OK to make mistakes. The children practise trying again, accepting help and finding a new solution.

Safe community

The children learn to work together, set boundaries and respect one another.

  • Shoes should be placed on the shoe rack. Please bring a bag for all your belongings.
  • Please let the instructor know about any injuries, allergies or anything else we should be aware of.
  • The child can borrow the necessary equipment during a free trial week.

Something for adults too

Does it make you want to exercise more yourself?

Many parents find that they want to get started too. You can try the adult sessions for free and find the training that suits you – regardless of your child’s membership.

Frequently asked questions

Before you arrive

Who is Junior suitable for?

Junior is for children in Years 2–4. Children do not need any previous experience. New children are welcomed and learn the programme step by step.

What are the children training for?

The children get to try out Kali, BJJ and kickboxing as part of a structured programme. The content varies from time to time, so not all styles are necessarily practised in the same session.

What do you mean by «we learn to make mistakes»?

Making mistakes is a natural part of learning. The children get to try tasks that they don’t always succeed at straight away. We practise pausing, listening, making adjustments and trying again. The aim is for the child to become more confident in tackling challenges without giving up.

What should my child wear to their first training session?

Ordinary sportswear without zips, metal or sharp parts is fine. Children train barefoot. Bring a water bottle and a bag for clothes and personal belongings.

Does the child need their own equipment?

Not during the free trial week. All the necessary equipment can be borrowed. Once you’ve signed up for membership, your child will need the starter pack that comes with the membership. Please wait to buy it until you’ve received the correct information from us.

How do we fasten the belt?

Se video: Slik knytter du beltet. Videoen viser hele fremgangsmåten steg for steg.

When do we need to meet?

Please arrive 10–15 minutes before the session so that your child has time to get changed, go to the toilet and be ready when we start. If you arrive after the session has started, your child will have to wait until the next session. This is to ensure safety, structure and calm within the group.

Where can we park?

When parking outside Ægirsvei 10, your car's number plate must be registered to receive 2.5 hours of free parking.

How do deliveries and collections work?

A parent or guardian must ensure that the child is dropped off and collected safely at the agreed time. Please inform the instructor clearly if another adult is to collect the child, or if the child is allowed to go home on their own. Children must not be left without an agreed arrangement after the lesson.

Can parents watch the training session?

It’s good to have an adult present the first time. Afterwards, we’d like the training area to be as quiet and focused as possible. Please check with the instructor if your child needs you to stay nearby.

What should we do if the child can’t come?

Please record any absences in the membership log. Regular training makes it easier to keep up with the group and is important if your child wishes to take a grading exam later on.

Can a child exercise when they are ill?

No. Children with a fever, vomiting, a contagious illness, contagious skin conditions or open wounds must not take part in training. Nails must be kept short, and kit and equipment must be clean.

Are there belts and grading?

Yes, but grading is optional. We normally hold grading sessions twice a year. Attendance, effort and submitting a correctly completed form by the deadline are important. You can find the dates and deadlines in the term schedule.

Do you train during the school holidays?

The children’s and youth teams generally follow the school holidays. If there’s no school, there’s normally no training. Always check the term calendar for any changes, camps and start dates.

Do the training camps include accommodation?

No. The summer camp and Christmas camp are organised as training weekends at KKS. Children are dropped off and collected every day. Participation is voluntary, and information is posted on the relevant camp page.

Can we apply for funding for membership and equipment?

Families in need of financial support can find out more about the Leisure Fund in Kristiansand Municipality. KKS provides information about the scheme, but applications and assessments are handled by the municipality.

What do we do with clothes and equipment after the class?

Please label the kit, belt, gloves, sticks, water bottle and bag with your child’s name. Everything must be taken home after each training session. Wash the training kit and air or clean the equipment before the next session.
